The east edge of Hiroshima prefecture is the city of Fukuyama, rich with history and culture having old streets. Not only historical structures like Fukuyama Castle, but also the World Heritage Site Miyajima, Shimanami Kaido, Hiroshima, and Onomichi are recommended places to make a little side trip.
The World Heritage Site, "Itsukushima Shrine" has an impressive "floating" torii gate on the ocean. You can enjoy a very Japanese sort of scenery.
Hiroshima offers many things to see including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial that makes a statement on the importance of peace, as well as many local delicacies you can enjoy.
An expressway that connects Onomichi, Hiroshima of Honshu with Imabari, Ehime of Shikoku. Walking, cycling, and driving are all activities enjoyed here.
